1. Introduction: Why I Finally Watched She-Ra
As a kid, I loved watching She-Ra transform — even if my memories of the original 1980s series are a bit fuzzy. By the time I grew up in the 1990s, She-Ra was already fading from the spotlight.
But when She-Ra and the Princesses of Power debuted on Netflix, I was intrigued by its bold new direction: vibrant visuals, deeper character arcs, and a refreshingly inclusive cast.
I didn’t start watching until Season 3, mostly because my TV time was already packed (Dragon Ball Z loyalist here). But once I did, I was hooked.
Now, having finished She-Ra Season 5, I’m here to tell you — spoiler-free — why you should watch this powerful conclusion.
2. LGBTQ+ and Non-Binary Representation in She-Ra
Representation is at the heart of She-Ra’s Netflix reboot. Alongside straight couples, the series features same-sex relationships and a standout non-binary character: Double Trouble, a shapeshifter introduced in Season 4.
What I appreciated most was how She-Ra normalized these identities. There’s no big announcement — just a character who exists and is referred to by they/them pronouns, like it’s the most natural thing in the world. It reminded me of Brandon Sanderson’s Starsight, where the protagonist, Spensa, interacts with alien species using gender-neutral terms.
This kind of representation matters — especially for younger viewers. It tells them that identity is something to be respected, not questioned. And unlike the original She-Ra, which reflected the gender norms of its time, the reboot offers a broader, more human spectrum of characters.
3. She-Ra’s Magical Transformation and Visual Effects
I’ve always loved a good transformation sequence — whether it’s Goku turning Super Saiyan or Sakura unlocking her wand. She-Ra delivers that same thrill, but adds layers of meaning and struggle to Adora’s transformation.
In Season 5, Adora’s connection to her power is challenged. Without spoiling anything, I’ll say this arc is one of the most satisfying parts of the season.
And visually? It’s stunning. The animators went all in on magical set pieces, shimmering transformations, and dreamlike scenes across Etheria. The animation feels cinematic and polished — especially for a TV show aimed at younger audiences.
4. She-Ra’s Storytelling and Character Arcs
What truly sets She-Ra and the Princesses of Power apart is its smart, emotionally grounded writing. The writers handle a large cast, complex world-building, and multi-season arcs without losing narrative focus.
Adora, Catra, Bow, and Glimmer all evolve in believable, meaningful ways. Supporting characters — including the various Princesses of Power — get their moments too. No one feels like a throwaway.
As a writer myself, I appreciated the pacing, the foreshadowing, and the character development. It’s clear the showrunners cared deeply about story integrity.
Honestly? I’d read a whole series of She-Ra novels. Etheria is a world that could — and should — be explored even further.
5. Should You Watch She-Ra Season 5?

And if you’re new to the show? She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is now complete on Netflix — five binge-worthy seasons filled with heart, action, magic, and representation.
