Frequently Asked Questions About Dimension 20

Dimension 20 is one of my favorite shows ever. It's my mission to make sure people find answers to their questions about it.

I've been watching the show and interviewing its cast members for four years. So, in this blog post, I'll answer the most common questions I see online about the show. It will also be periodically updated when I discover new questions that need answering. Feel free to comment below and ask your question as well.

How Did Dimension 20 Start?

Brennan Lee Mulligan created Dimension 20 as part of the effort to develop a flagship TV production at the launch of Dropout.TV back in 2018.

The first season was Fantasy High - the longest initial production on the channel - and was also released online on YouTube and various podcasting platforms.

How to Start Watching Dimension 20?

Since most seasons of Dimension 20 are unrelated, you can watch them in any order. However, there are a few fan-favorite ways that many people decide to follow to begin their journey with the show.

How Many Seasons of Dimension 20 Are There?

As of January 2024, there are 21 seasons of Dimension 20, with the 22nd season shot but unannounced.

Where Can I Watch All of Dimension 20?

You can watch all of Dimension 20 on Dropout.tv! It's been the show's home from the beginning, and any and all content about the show can be watched there.

In addition, You can watch various seasons of Dimension 20 that have been made public on the Dimension 20 YouTube channel.

What Time Does Dimension 20 come out?

When a season runs, new episodes air on Wednesdays at 7 PM Eastern or 4 PM Pacific. After a season has ended its original run, it can be found entirely on-demand on Dropout.

Is Dimension 20 on Spotify?

It Depends on what season you're looking for. Fantasy High: Sophomore Year, Escape from The Blookeep, and The Unsleeping City Chapter 1 are all available on Spotify. The remaining 18 seasons, however, can only be viewed on Dropout. Listen to the last podcast episode on the D20 Spotify channel explaining everything.

How Long is a Dimension 20 Campaign?

The length of a Dimension 20 campaign can range from 4 episodes all the way up to 20 episodes.

It depends on whether the season is with the core cast or not. Core cast seasons are longer and range between 17-20 episodes. Non-core cast seasons are called side quests and usually range between 4-10 episodes.

What 3D Software Does Dimension 20 Use?

The 3D software Dimension 20 has been using is called Talespire. It has been used for seasons released during the pandemic where the cast couldn't meet in person and play with physical minis.

Can I Listen to Dimension 20 as a Podcast?

On Dropout, there's a podcast version of all the seasons without video. However, if you want to semi-listen to a video episode, you can do that, as the Dropout app supports background listening. Just start a video episode on your phone and lock your screen. You can still listen to a video episode without watching. And if you want to double back and watch a part that sounded exciting, you can do that, too.

Do I Need to Know How to Play D&D to Watch Dimension 20?

The answer is no. You don't need to know how to play D&D to watch Dimension 20. An excellent way to learn is by watching Fantasy High, where Ally Beardsley, one of the core cast members, had never played D&D before, so Brennan had to explain some things, and through Ally's experience, we all benefit.

A more recent way to learn D&D is by watching the much shorter Dungeons and Drag Queens season, which introduced drag queens to D&D. It is Four episodes long and will give you a good base understanding of how to play the game and some core mechanics.

Do I Need to Watch Dimension 20 in Order?

No, you do not need to watch Dimension 20 in order. The show is an anthology series, and most seasons of the show can be viewed independently from others.

Only a handful of the seasons are explicit sequels to others; in that case, you should watch those specific seasons in order. For example, The Unsleeping City and The Unsleeping City Chapter II. And Fantasy High, Fantasy High: Sophomore Year, and Fantasy High: Junior Year.

Is Dimension 20 Scripted?

Dimension 20 is not scripted. The only person around the table with plans for what's coming next is the DM, but the entire session is pure improv.

The Adventuring Party episodes are a good indicator of how much the players were excited and surprised by how things went during the episode. It's easy to decide something is scripted if that's the type of show you've always watched. Playing D&D around your local table is also not scripted - Dimension 20 is the same, only with cameras and mics rolling.

Is Dimension 20 Still Going?

Yes! Dimension 20 is still going strong and releases multiple seasons every year. Since its debut in 2018, the show has released 20 seasons and premiered its 21st one on January 10th, 2024.

How Long Are Dimension 20 Episodes?

Dimension 20 episodes range between 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours in length.
